Honestly, I don’t even know where to start with this review. I’ll try not to spoil anything, but if I do, I’ll let you know first. I was completely blown away by this novel and needed several days to get back to real life after finishing this beautiful book. I honestly don’t know how Sarah J. Maas can top this one, but honestly, she probably will because she’s just that talented. I read this in one sitting overnight because I just couldn’t put it down. Yes, this book is a rollercoaster of pain and feels, but it’s also absolutely mind-blowing. I felt kind of empty after finishing it because I didn’t want the story to end. SJM really took her writing to a whole new level, and experiencing this journey was honestly incredible.

I’ve loved this series from the very beginning because it shows Sarah J. Maas’s incredible talent as a writer. It’s so different from her Throne of Glass series, and I really appreciate the creativity and dedication she puts into this story. You can tell how much these characters mean to her, and every scene is so vividly described. Her writing really sweeps you away and makes you lose yourself in the story. If someone asked me tomorrow to leave this world behind and step into Feyre’s shoes, I wouldn’t hesitate. The story is complex and I didn’t expect SJM to expand the world so much, but she did, and it’s fantastic. The story has a great flow, with new characters and places introducing themselves while still developing our favorites.
What we see as our greatest weakness can sometimes be our biggest strength. 💪
The book kicks off with Feyre back in the Spring Court with Tamlin. Some might find this part slow, but I think it perfectly shows how much Feyre has grown as a character. The strength it took for her to go back and lay the foundation for her and Rhysand’s journey was amazing. It really set up the story well and gave us insight into Feyre’s mindset at that time. I got some serious Aelin vibes because Feyre was so kickass and confident, which made me love her even more. The best part? Feyre’s character development. I thought she was already well-developed, but SJM added even more layers. Feyre is such a strong, powerful character now, and she’s come so far since the first book. Looking back, I can’t believe she’s the same girl — and I love that. It shows how much Rhys and the Night Court have helped her become who she is now.
I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we had… the wait was totally worth it. 💕
Rhys remains as perfect as ever. Like, who doesn’t love him?! The way he treats Feyre made me swoon every single time. She is his High Lady in every way, and he gives her something Tamlin never could — respect. He believes in her and encourages her to achieve incredible things. He lets her spread her wings (pun intended — lol) and embrace her magic. The constant support and love Rhys shows are exactly what every girl needs. Plus, he’s hilarious, which makes him even more lovable. I honestly can’t get enough of him. He’s definitely one of my top book boyfriends. The chemistry between Feyre and Rhys is electric, and all their scenes together are written perfectly. It just makes my heart so happy. ❤️
It’s rare for someone to face who they truly are and not run from it — not be broken by it. 🌟
Cassian and Nesta are absolutely brilliant and I really believe they’ll be the focus of one of the upcoming books. I need a story with just them because I know it will be epic! They have such a unique dynamic that runs through the entire story. We also get to know Mor better, and I felt so many emotions for her — I just wanted to hug her. I love how deep her character is. Azriel is still brooding but I love him too. There’s definitely something going on with him and Elain, and I can’t wait to see what’s up. Amren’s sass is pure gold, and I adore her. There are some surprises with her character that totally shocked me and the others. We also meet a new High Lord, Helion, and I am obsessed with him! He has to be in the next few books because he’s just that awesome. We also see the return of the Bone Carver and the Suriel — and they play such huge roles in the story. And Tamlin… I have to mention him. I actually liked how SJM handled him in this book, especially at the end. It felt realistic and believable. And, okay, I didn’t hate him anymore — which is wild for me!

The best part about this book (besides everything else) is how unpredictable it is. SJM totally kept me on the edge of my seat and gave me multiple heart attacks! Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, a huge twist would come out of nowhere and change everything. And there were not one, not two, but three major moments at the end that had me freaking out and making weird noises — my neighbors probably thought I was losing it. The biggest shocker involving a certain character at the end had me tearing up and my jaw dropping. I’ve never been more scared for a character in my life, and I was praying SJM wouldn’t do what I thought she might. I even stopped breathing for a second. HOW DARE YOU SARAH J. MAAS!! How dare you scare me like that! 😱
It’s a new world now, and we have to decide how to end this old one and start fresh. 🌍
If you couldn’t tell, I absolutely loved this book! I’m still kind of in shock after that epic battle — SJM made me lose my mind — but everything was wrapped up so well. Most of the big questions were answered, but she also set up new challenges for our favorite characters. I think it would be so interesting if the next books were from different character perspectives, but honestly, I’m always happy to see more Feyre and Rhys. This was by far the best read of 2017 for me, and I highly recommend you read it as soon as possible!

Reread of the entire series via audio so that I could remember all of the plot before reading A Court of Silver Flames.

I had forgotten how much I was looking forward to Nesta & Cassian. Nesta comes across as stone cold at times across this series, but occasionally the reader was given a peek behind her facade to see that there was more going on inside than what she usually revealed.
