Alchemised takes place in a dark fantasy realm called Paladia and follows a storyline similar to that of Manacled. This book is a must-read! It’ll keep you on your toes, have you staying up late at night, and even in tears. The story is so well crafted and thoughtfully written. I actually did a quick reread of Manacled before this new release, and I love that one too — but this one is just as epic. The world-building is incredible. The necromancers, vivimancers, animancers, necrothralls, the magic systems, the alchemical arrays — it’s all so new, complex, and super intriguing. I really appreciate that SenLinYu kept the toxic enemies-to-lovers romance. It’s not just ETL, but the main characters do some pretty terrible, unspeakable things for each other. Helena Marino and Kaine Ferron are morally grey characters — there’s good in them, but in the face of war’s horrors, they do what they have to survive.
This is a standalone dark gothic romantic fantasy, so I recommend checking the author’s note for triggers. Honestly, I loved this story so much. I highly recommend everyone read it. I think the audiobook is a great way to experience it because you might catch details you could miss while just listening. 🎧 That said, I totally enjoyed Saskia Maarleveld’s narration — she does a fantastic job. She gives each character unique voices, and her pacing is even, so you can listen at whatever speed you prefer. I was listening at around 1.5-1.7x.
One thing I really want to mention — I absolutely recommend this audiobook! It’s so immersive, and I think it’s awesome to experience the story in that way. Plus, the hardcover edition is gorgeous, with a double-sided dust jacket and a gold dragon ouroboros case stamp. The only thing missing is sprayed edges, but overall, it’s a beautiful collector’s item.
Overall, I loved this story and can’t recommend it enough. If you enjoy dark fantasy with morally grey characters, complex magic, and intense romance, this book is for you. 😊
