Honestly, I was a little hesitant at first when I picked it up. I enjoyed Every Summer After but found Meet Me at The Lake, Fortune’s second book, just okay. So I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one. But I can honestly say this is my favorite by Fortune so far! It was perfect — everything I wanted and more!
I fell in love with the characters right away. Lucy, the female protagonist, was amazing. I loved her love for flowers, running her own flower shop, and dreaming of having her own cut flower farm someday. If I hadn’t been so stressed the past couple of weeks with my own flower seeds from Floret Farm not growing, I probably would have loved all the mentions of Erin and her farm even more. But that’s a story for another day! 😅
And then there’s Felix. He was incredible. Honestly, he was everything you want in a male main character and then some. I loved how the book started — my jaw literally dropped — and the back-and-forth timeline of past and present really made the story even better for me.
The setting is also to die for. Oh my gosh. The place — Prince Edward Island — I had never even heard of it before I looked it up on the map, but Fortune’s descriptions made me want to visit ASAP. It made me crave oysters and that relaxing small-town ocean vibe so much! 🌊 This book would be perfect for reading by the water on vacation, but honestly, Fortune’s writing makes it feel like you’re right there, no matter where you are. Sometimes, I think that’s what we all want — to escape into a beautiful story and feel like we’re right there in the moment.
I really wasn’t expecting to love this book so much. The fact that two of Fortune’s romance releases this spring became some of my favorite reads this year is a lesson — never dismiss an author or assume they won’t surprise you with something you’ll absolutely love!
I highly recommend this book — it’s a cozy, romantic escape that I couldn’t put down! 😊
