Unhinged is the first book in a four-part series, with the final book coming out in October 2025. It’s a dark why-choose romance that follows Avery, a girl with an extremely dark and traumatic past. She’s ultimately a victim of circumstances, not a bad person at heart.
Avery has been convicted of murdering her father, an incident that left her emotionally and mentally scarred. Because of her history of abuse, she was given a spot at Lilydale Foundation Center instead of prison. Lilydale is a rehab center that takes in young adults to help them become functioning members of society — or as Avery calls it, “a glorified prison and asylum for the deranged with good alibis.”
I went into this book completely blind and was so surprised by how good the story was. It’s really unique and I’ve never seen anything like it in this genre, which was done so well. There are lots of twists and turns, and all the male main characters are so distinct. That really helps because why-choose books can sometimes be confusing, especially when characters blend together. I didn’t have that problem at all with this one.
This book is a slow burn, which I don’t usually enjoy, but I think it was necessary for the character development. I also believe the series will get even spicier as it goes on. Some other tropes include morally grey MMCs, hurt/comfort, enemies to lovers, touch her and die, and love triangle.
Grey and Theo are total top-tier book boyfriends, and I’m super curious to see how Damon will be redeemed in the next books. The ending is a pretty heartbreaking cliffhanger, but I can’t wait to see what happens next.
And I have to say, the audiobook is absolutely incredible. It’s narrated from multiple POVs with a cast that’s just amazing. Each narrator is fantastic on their own, and together they create a performance that will totally draw you in — even if you’re new to audiobooks or dark romance. Honestly, it might be the best audiobook narration I’ve heard in 2025!
Overall, I really loved this audiobook and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys dark romance and strong storytelling. You won’t regret listening! 💖
So I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook for this book and wow, just wow. It was truly amazing with the best narrators who did a brilliant job. The way Grey said Baby girl I was finished. It was a sick read with a good storyline and some great tension but it did break my heart because wdym with those last few chapters 😭
